      I believe in order to be captivated by the book you have to very early on get interested in the main character. You have to care about his or her fate and therefore want to read on. Unfortunately for me, this book did not do that. I found the writing style very erratic without giving the main character any depth. This might well have been on purpose as the main character Tess is running from her own inner demons as well as outer dangers and has to deal with the gift of feeling other people emoti [...]

      Whoa! I should've stopped when the protagonist told me to.Okay, not really. This impacted me because I kept reading. It just wasn't what I expected based on other stuff I've read by this author. That'll teach me.What a powerful tale, though. I just wish it ended with some optimism, if not an actual HEA. I get that this just wasn't that kind of story.       Living In FearThis is a stand alone novel.I found this book highly disturbing. That said I also found it engrossing and impossible to put down :) I would think twice before allowing a child to read it but I would recommend it to all my adult friends. It was a very unique world with incredible characters that had me rooting for them until the very end. I just think the subject matter ls a bit too mature for most impressionable teens.
