I had this book for years, finally read it, have since forgotten about it. As I recall, it was fine, just special. I'd go 2.5 stars had I the option, but 2 stars seems too harsh. I don't recall it being bad—just okay.

A short little book that I read in one sitting. Matthiessen is an amazingly good writer in both fiction and nonfiction.
