I have always been impressed with Rosa Parks. As most people know, she was the woman who refused to give up her seat on a bus for a white person. this set off a bus strike that lasted for months in Alabama. this book is a devotion to Rosa Parks by her nieces and nephews. Each take turns telling their experiences and stories they had with their beloved auntie Rosa. A couple years after she made world news she and her husband moved to Michigan where most of her relatives lived. Rosa Parks was not [...]

This book is enjoyable enough. It really shines when the family is telling stories about her directly as in their direct interactions with her, words said, situations that happened, wisdom imparted etc. It really allows the reader to see who Rosa Parks was outside of her public persona. This book gets a star deducted because there are a lot of what seem to be filler opinions from the family and its becomes redundant and just seems like something we could get anywhere or ask anyones opinion of Ros [...]

Touching stories about Rosa Parks, as she was known to her nephews and nieces throughout her long life. She had a principled life before she made her mark on the civil rights movement and stayed involved with a quiet and humble strength. I read the book when it first came out, but read it aloud to my daughter this year. This time around, I'm struck with how open-minded and non-judgmental she was about family and current leaders.

FULL REVIEW HERE: bookandbroadway/2d soon on Tumblr: bookgirl As a note, this novel was sent to me by the publisher in exchange for a review. This does not effect my opinions in any way.Our Auntie Rosa is a the phenomenal, raw and real glimpse into who Rosa Parks was outside of the history she'd helped make. We all know the story, the delightfully brave story of the woman who helped fight for freedom and justice and sparked a rise in the struggle for equality. Rosa Parks was a fighter, a wonderf [...]

4.5 stars.(I won a copy of this book on in exchange for an honest review.)What I loved about this book was the chance to get a picture into the full life of Rosa Parks, a figure who tends to be known in the context of her one act of courage, with possibly a year or two of context for that act. With this book, Rosa Parks came to life in my mind as a full person as the book provided me with a picture of who Rosa was and what mattered to her in the choices that she made over the course of her lifet [...]

Our Auntie Rosa: The Family of Rosa Parks Remembers Her Life and Lessons by Sheila McCauley Keys and Eddie B. Allen Jr. is a collection of memories from Rosa Parks' nieces and nephews. Each anecdote gives a peek into the private display of strength, courage, and understanding in a life so widely known for the public display of these characteristics. It is a tribute and somewhat like a highlight reel of positive family memories.Read my complete review at: memoriesfrombooks/2015Reviewed based on a [...]

An homage to the great civil rights leader Rosa Parks in the words of her family members. We see that she not only had a profound effect no only on our country but also on the lives of her family members. This was a woman who could get her message across in a matter of a few words. This follows not only her life in the South but also her later years in Detroit, Michigan where she continued to be very active on civil rights issues especially as an aide to Congressman John Conyers. A wonderful wom [...]

I loved this book because it showed Rosa Parks in a totally different light. She was more than a stubborn one-hit wonder; she was an activist long before her famed bus incident. She was also an Aunt, sister, and neighbor. She was a gentle, yet unflinching being of moral fiber. The book was even more endearing for its scanned artifacts and inclusions: letters, documents, and family recipes. I can't recommend this little gem enough.

4 stars because I got to know Rosa Parks as a person. It is nice that her family put this book together as a tribute to her.
