The author provides the first review? seems to allow it (their how-to material showed Stephen King reviewing one of his own books. If it's good enough for him)The Lightning Gun is my attempt to start one of those great adventure series like I was addicted to when I grew up, like The Hardy Boys, or in my case Tom Swift Jr. In this case, the team includes Emily, an 11-year-old girl, and Brandon, an 8-year-old boy. The science is real (or nearly real it is science fiction, after all). There's no m [...]

It's hard when your parents don't believe you. But what do you do when the fate of the world is at stake? There's a mad scientist on the loose and no one believes Emily, so she sets out to save the city herself. After a freak lightning strike knocks out the power in the science building, she stumbles over the body of a boy in the stairwell. But saving his life brings a lot of questions:Why can't he remember who he is?Why is someone trying to kill him?Why does he have clues that point to the Mad S [...]

I really enjoyed reading The Lightning Gun, a solid middle grades science thriller. The action starts when Emily, our heroine, joins her parents on a trip to a laboratory as contractors/consultants. Then some strange lightning hits and the action doesn't stop until the last page. The book is a blend of factual science and some fictional science that doesn't seem too far out of the realm of possibility. I would recommend this book to others, especially kids that have an interest in science.

A fun adventure and a fun read. As a Middle Grade book . . . I think it's great for boys or girls who are showing interest in secret agent / scifi books or movies. They might be too young to watch James Bond or mission impossible films . . . but they could read this. And it looks like this is the first book in a fun series.

Fun book featuring a smart, spunky hero and her sidekick, who is both more and less than he seems. Very enjoyable read. A big plus for making the book a stand-alone read even though there are/will be more in the series.
