This is a delightfully stripped-back recipe book that takes us into the home cooking kitchens of the Amish people, who live what may seem to outsiders as a simple life, focused on work, family, and faith. That simplicity, and the importance of family and faith, comes through strongly in 99 FAVOURITE AMISH RECIPES, with Varozza introducing the book and each section with thoughts about what is important in life, a religious passage, and a blessing. There is a delectable assortment of recipes in th [...]

I felt like I was in heaven when I came across this cookbook. Amish cooking is such a wonderful, comfort food and to have these recipes is ideal. Each section of this cookbook is introduces by a scripture to be followed by some of the most wonderful recipes. Included are recipes for Cinnamon Rolls, Apple Crumb Pie, Farmer's Soup and more. Each recipe is very easy to follow and the recipes turn out as tasty as I remember. Lots of great recipes!! Already made a few, cannot wait to try more. There is a lot of story, before the recipes. Photos would have been nice. Photos give us, the readers and potential cooks, the confidence in the final product, which in turn, gives us confidence in you, the author. Some may not attempt, due to not knowing what to expect.Would recommend to any level though, some very simple recipes and some recipes, most will be familiar with.

This is the first Amish cookbook I have reviewed that I have felt truly represents the essence of the Amish. The recipes are diverse and cover meals and snacks for every time of day. Each section features an Amish blessing and a little bit of history. There were no photographs in this eARC, but I hope they are included in the finished book. This is what kept it from being five stars for me. I was approved for this eARC through Netgalley in return for and honest review.

OKI am going to cop to it. I only grabbed this book off Overdrive because I am behind in my reading challenge and need some easy read books to catch up. Voilaa cookbook. What I ended up doing was taking way more than a handful of recipes(about 70% of the book) that were interesting and would more than likely be enjoyed by my husband and myself. A very simple book in format and simple, laid out recipes.

Genre: Cooking, Food & WineThis is a wonderful collection of home cooked recipes, in the tradition of the way our grandmothers cooked. The selections, made with wholesome ingredients, are divided into 3 parts; Best Ever Breakfasts, Midday Meals and Snacks and Quick and Easy Dinners. My personal collection of recipes include many from both of my grandmothers. I was surprised to find the "Homemade Egg Noodles" recipe is the same as my grandmothers. Also, the "Amish Apea Cake, Deluxe Version is [...]

I haven't tried any recipes yet, but as I read through the book on my Kindle I bookmarked a number of them. I will update the review once I have tried some of the recipes!I appreciated the little Scripture and prayer before each meal section, to help the meal prep be done with the right heart attitude.I don't claim to know much about the Amish, but some of the ingredients had me scratching my head - jell-o? velveeta? instant pudding? That's not what I expected in an Amish cookbook! Even cans of [...]

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley/Harvest House Publishers for an honest review. "99 Favorite Amish Recipes" by Georgia Varozza is delightful cookbook. I loved the scripture and introduction on each section. Best-Ever Breakfast - "Baked Oatmeal", "Blueberry Muffins", and "Cinnamon Rolls" are great for breakfast or anytime. The "Sausage and Egg casserole" is the same recipe that my grandmother made for special brunches. Midday meals and snack - "Apple Crumb Pie", "Chewy Oatmeal Cookie [...]

I was looking for a simple cookbook of hearty meals and this definitely met my expectations. This book is separated into three sections: Best-Ever Breakfasts, Midday Meals and Snacks, and Quick and Easy Dinners. Each section begins with a verse, prayer, and word of encouragement. There are recipes for pies, casseroles, muffins, cookies, pancakes, soups, stews and other common types of foods. The most unusual recipe was Hog Maw (Stuffed Pig’s Stomach). Most of the recipes seemed easy to follow. [...]

With each section of this wonderful recipe book, there is a scripture passage and prayer. I appreciate the fact that the author includes some of her own tips for recipes, such as variations or substitutions one might use. There is a section for "Best-Ever Breakfasts", "Midday Meals & Snacks", and "Quick & Easy Dinners". The recipes featured are unique to the Amish homes. I personally tried the Baked Oatmeal (this is good but I think I still prefer oatmeal creamier), German Potato Salad ( [...]

The cover of the book is an excellent choice it portrays the Amish lifestyle, also the dedication in the front of the book is very well written,The recipes are something that you do not come across in a regular cookbook, and that is what makes this book special. This book is good for women young, middle aged, old, married, single. I myself have copied some recipes and will try them in the very near future. The Chapters set up is also very nicely arranged; they take you from breakfast , midday snac [...]

This cookbook drew my eyes in right away. I live somewhat nearby to Amish areas & looking at the recipes, these are many of the foods we've all encountered sometime in our lives & tasted. Not all of course, but they're mostly like comfort foods to meThe author gives a little bit of introduction before each section of recipes and talks about Amish & uses quotes that somewhat bless these foods & the people making themSurprisingly enough ---they seem quite easy!! Which I'm grateful [...]

I'm so glad I found this book because it has recipes that I loved when I was younger, but had lost over the years. One of them is a yummy pistachio delight dessert. The book is divided into three main sections: Best-Ever Breakfasts, Meals and Snacks and Quick & Easy Dinners. The recipes are so good and easy to follow. There is even a recipe for making your own cottage cheese. I loved the way it was organized. At the beginning of each main section there is a bible verse and a prayer. There are [...]

While I am a true cookbook junkie, I found this one slightly disappointing. For me, half of the pleasure of a cookbook is the food photography and pictures showing me what my dish should turn out to look like. This edition is void of such pleasure.I found the recipes were redundant in many other Amish cookbooks available in gift shops all over the country. While some recipes sounded delicious, there were a few I am sure I will not be preparing (I.e. Stuffed Pig's Stomach). If you love down-home, [...]

Many great recipes! Easy to follow directions! Well written. This should help those who are looking to get back into whole foods although sometimes there is a can or two of Campbells! Enjoy! Netgalley and Harvest House Publishers provided me with an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book is filled with wonderful, easy to make recipes. So many of them are very similar or identical to my family recipes that it has made me want to go look into our family line a bit more closely. I highly recommend this book because the food it will help you make will be delicious and relatively inexpensive.

I really loved this book I liked how all the recipes were ones that I will use and not one that I would find hard to do or something I wouldn't eat. I loved that it they had sayings or prayers before each one. Most of them seemed easy and so glad to have this book. I would recommend it!
