I thoroughly enjoyed reading the Max & Me Mysteries (3 book series) by Patricia H. Rushford. The title, adventure, and the character of Cooper will appeal to boys, while the two main characters in the series will draw female readers, making this series engaging for all readers. Jessie Miller knows that good friends are hard to find, especially since most kids steer clear of her. It’s not that Jessie isn’t nice. It’s her bald head. Having Leukemia just freaks kids out. Not Max Hunter, though. Max is Jessie’s new best friend. The more Jessie gets to know Max, though, the more she suspects that Max is having a lot of trouble at home. Jessie investigates and what she discovers puts her in a tough spot. Should she risk losing her best friend in order to save her?Thi [...]

I loved this book because it tells a lot about how it doesn't matter what you are on the outside. It just matters what is on the inside. Jessie in this book has cancer and her best friend Max doesn't care that she is bald. Max's aunt and uncle are really mean to her and she won't tell anyone. Jessie figures out and risks her relationship with Max and tells her parents.
