The Phoenix Syndrome by Claire Gem is a fun and light romantic comedy that is a highly pleasant read. The book started out at a steady pace, but before I knew it I was so engrossed in the plot that I found it difficult to put it down even to make a cup of coffee! This book is one of those books that gives you a feel-good feeling about the story and makes the time go by in the blink of an eye. I enjoyed reading this book thoroughly and found myself chuckling quite often owing to the author's witty [...]

A poignant story of Lannie, a hi-spirited married woman, who finds her husband blatantly cheating, says his love for her is over and asks her for a divorce. She finds herself stuck after giving twenty years of her life to her marriage and her son, foregoing dreams of continued studies in a career as a pianist. She realizes that her life has changed, and that perhaps the divorce is an opportunity to pursue her dream. But her lying husband leaves her with nothing. While working as a lab technician [...]

The Phoenix Syndrome is the story of a woman who is forced to come to terms with her disintegrating marriage and her soon to be empty nest. Lannie gave up her dreams to marry Karl and now in her forties, she’s beginning to realize it was a disastrous mistake. The truth begins to crystallize on her birthday when her celebratory weekend turns into one disappointment after another. Because her husband failed to acquire tickets in advance to a sold-out classical concert she, her brother and sister [...]

I won the book in a give away. I'm glad I had the opportunity to read it. I thoroughly enjoyed the book until the end. I guess the best way to put it, is that it was abrupt. Watching Yolanda finally come into her own was nice, even with her many setbacks. She realized she was a stronger person than she thought. It was an HEA ending, I just wish it had been carried a little further. I will definitely read more of Ms Gem's books. I do recommend this book.

This book isn't normally up my usual reading alley, but when I received the review request, it sounded interesting so I gave it a shot. This book was incredible. Lannie is an easily lovable character and you feel her pain right away. She is a tough, strong willed character who has given up so much that when she finally decides to live her life, you will be in the background cheering her on. After obsessing over a famous drummer of her son's favorite band, she finds herself in an interesting once [...]

Reviewed by: Annie ArcaneA free copy was provided by the author.Initial thoughts:Perfect blend of romance and one woman's personal journey. With so many feels. What I loved:The well-paced storyline was pretty unique. And coming from someone who seeks out unorthodox romance (mainly wounded heroes) that's saying a lot.Ahhh, the emotions. I felt all the emotions in the land. I smiled, frowned, giggled, gasped, and may have wanted to strangle certain people at some points. This is a very good thing.L [...]

Wow! This book grabbed a hold of me like the mouse on Lannie's hand and just wouldn't let go! Powerfully emotional with plenty of ups and downs, I was completely enraptured and found myself quite unable to put this book down! There were quite a few moments I emotionally connected with her as she droned on through everyday life. After she gets bitten and some homewrecking situations happen (I'm not giving away spoilers!), she goes a little wild with rediscovering herself as an attractive woman wi [...]

Wow captivating! This book had me so intensely captivated with what would come next! Lannie's story had me so emotionally involved, I couldn't put it down without knowing what would happen next! This book has so many layers to it. The loves and the losses Lannie endures is breath taking. I could feel the intensity of her every feeling for Tristan, her music, her life! I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for an amazing story of love and romance, yes, but also of growth and finding [...]

While I feel safe to say that I have never read a a book with this story line I can say that I laughed and yelled at this book a lot. Witch means it was a great book and I felt like Lannie was a girl friend not just a book character. I can't imagine having my husband leave me and like hers did (yelling at this point) not cool. I don't know that I could have handled everything like she did but made for a great story.
