Ummm Sequel please! More please, I need the rest of the story! I really like the perspective of the salvager and post war survivors.

I received this book from .I've never met a Halo book I didn't like and Smoke and Shadow is no exception. First, a little background info. Meet Rion Forge, born on Earth to UNSC Marine Corps non-commissioned officer John Forge in around 2525. She was raised as a military brat though she hardly considered herself one. She had a rough relationship with her mother, which made her cling viciously to the desperate hope of someday finding her dad alive in cryo-sleep on the lost ship UNSC Spirit of Fir [...]

This book isn't like the others in the long line of Halo novels. After reading all other books, the constant fighting with often very little personal introspection becomes a bit dull. Smoke and Shadow brings a very welcome change of pace and perspective. This novel is less about epic fights and galaxy level stakes, and more about the people and emotions. It puts to light post-war perspectives and how much has been lost, how it affects people and how some never give up hope. Though the novel was s [...]

Rion Forge was one of my favorite parts of the Halo: Fractures anthology so I was excited to see she got an extended adventure. The first few chapters are that same short story, so I skipped that and got straight into the continuation of her story. It's a smaller adventure in the Halo Universe, more grounded, with a Firefly-esque crew. Cade and Rion's relationship is fantastically written, and I think there's a lot of interesting potential for Lessa and Niko. There is also a reference to a certa [...]

Great side story into the Halo universe. Loved the character development. Slow at times, but as any Halo book, action picks up towards the end. Being a digital novelette, it left a lot of unanswered questions hoping a sequel comes out or is reveled in another book. I hope so because I'd like this story to continue.

I got this as a giveaway. I have to say, it had moments of real emotion and action, but I think the size of the book limited the character development. That being said, I recommend this to anyone who like the HALO universe.

Good, but ends in huge cliffhanger! Where's the rest of the story?Good story, great characters, and nice back stories, but ends in a huge cliffhanger. Where and when is the ending?

    8. Brandon on said:

Talk about a cliffhangerGreat story. Good Characters. But as soon as it gets exciting its over. I'm hoping we get another chapter from her.

So soGood book over all, wish it had more action. Characters just didn't do it for me. Couldn't put my finger on it. But I still like the story.

Good short readThis is a separate story from the main events of the games. Interesting take on a scavenger life in the Halo canon.

Great read! Was so upset when it ended! Hope there is a sequel otherwise I think I'm going to die not knowing what's going to happen next with the characters!

Great plot and character development! Gay did an excellent job bringing the reader into the Halo world.

Enjoyed reading it. Should have been longer in my opinion. Good book anyway.

Too many plot points were their own smoke and shadow. Better be a sequel with this many loose ends.

I listened to this book via Audible.Halo: Smoke and Shadow is a tangential piece of Halo fiction that stands on its own but fits nicely in place amid the other lore in the universe. It has its most direct ties into Halo Wars, which I'm sure is intentional with the sequel to that game coming out next month. But there's also some interesting connections to Halo: Nightfall and Halo 4: Spartan Ops. You don't need to have played or watched these other works to enjoy Smoke and Shadow though. The story [...]
