Reader thoughts I'm the wrong target audience. This book uses the F word quite a few times, and it's just a novella!I loved the idea of (view spoiler)[a vampire getting shot and tossed into a morgue when everyone thinks he's dead. (hide spoiler)] It's perfect. It has the right humor and mix of creepy paranormal. Then Julian goes around killing people who were sort of his friends. That made me stop caring.Writer thoughts: Despite the many vampire stories, this one stayed fresh. Aside from the spoi [...]

This is a short story about a being different from humans: a mythical creature we all learn to either love or hate, a vampire. My only pet peeve is that it's too short and the blurb gives it all away. However, if you are looking for a sample of the author's style, it's an entertaining and cheap way to discover it. This could make a good prequel to a series. I'm giving it a 3.5 for while it is well written, it lacks a bit of originality.

Check out this review, and many more, on my blog jessjesinghaus.wordpress4.5 out of 5 stars This is the second short story I've read by Alex Carver, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. In very short order and with concise narration, we learn a lot about Julian. I loved the twist of this 'unique' individual living such a mundane life and would've appreciated seeing that expounded on more, but at the same time the story looses nothing without it. If you enjoy revenge tales with a sprinkling of supernatur [...]

Up front, I will confess that this is a bit more violent than my usual reading choices. Of course, stories of revenge usually are. This is one such story about a vampire who is out to get those who thought they'd killed him. Despite this, I found the story interesting, though I do feel as if there could be more. We don't really know much about Julian and it might be fun to learn more. My only nitpick is that there is some repetitive information. Beyond that, a nice, quick read.
