Interesting perspective on the history of Earth Day. It's an easy to read book, although a bit long for beginning readers. I found it an unfortunate coincidence that the author chose an oil spill off the California coast in 1969 to illustrate an example of the damage man has caused to the environment. This is both a historical and scientific look into Earth Day. The forward is even written by Gaylord Nelson, the former U.S. Senator and founder of Earth Day. The narrative is easy to follow and shows numerous examples of how various pollutants affect our earth and its inhabitants. The afterward is filled with simple things that everyone can do to help our planet every day, such as: recycling, water conservation, planting trees, and showing respect to animals.

A longer book for kids about Earth Day and how it came to be a holiday. It seemed to be the only book for some years about Earth Day. Lots of facts.
