For some reason I thought this book was a fantasy but I soon discovered it's a mystery. Mysteries usually don't hold my attention so I'll see how it goes.Later on: I did finish this up because the writing grabbed me. It is apparently smack in the middle of a long ongoing series but the references to the earlier books didn't throw me too much although I think I would've found a deeper connection to many of the characters if I had read the earlier books first. Still, this was an attention grabbing [...]

Another one day read. Loved the characters and the ending was quite a surprise. She's a good writer and I'd read more by her.

My first book by this author - well written, connects you with the characters - a detective thriller, she is a crime reporter that helps work unsolved crimes - this one gets very involved - an interesting read with a Surprise ending. I was not aware, it was #8 in a series but I enjoyed as a stand alone story.

meh. Just okay. the first I've read from this author as a part of a "blind date with a book" hosted by my local library. I was intrigued enough with the story to finish it. Some twists at the end that were surprising and some predictable.

Fast-paced but a bit predictable. Especially the "twist" at the end.

Buchanan's alter ego, Miami crime reporter Britt Montero, returns as the protagonist of an eighth fast-paced detective thriller (after You Only Die Twice). The Miami police's cold case squad (which investigates long-unsolved crimes) catches a break when an electrocuted burglar proves to be a vital link in solving a 14-year-old murder. Two affluent teenagers on their first date were abducted, assaulted, shot and left for dead. Despite a massive reward and a multi-state manhunt, the police were ne [...]

Britt Montero sees a body in the morgue and the chance occurrence changes her life forever. The dead body has scar tissue and Britt remembers a cold case where the same description was mentioned. The man was a thief who broke into the same business so often that the owner boogie trapped his ceiling where the man entered. The man was electrocuted and now lies in the morgue. Britt revisits the cold case file of two teenagers on their first date who were kidnapped and taken to a farm where the girl [...]

3.5 ***Buchanan is a wonderful storyteller and she really can build the tension in a thriller. When a burglar is electrocuted by a booby trap Brit Montero, Miami crime-beat reporter, is stunned that the proprietor of the shop is being charged. As she investigates she find a connection between the burglar and a very old, still unsolved, rape and murder. She gets the attention of the lead detective on the Cold Case Squad (Craig Burch), but the lieutenant (K C Riley) isn’t buying it, and the surv [...]

This is the fourth book in the ‘Britt Montero’ mysteries. Britt is the heroine, who is an extremely dedicated reporter covering the police beat for her Miami newspaper. This book mainly focuses on Sunny Hartley, who was the sole survivor of a brutal attack 14 years before. The cold case was brought to the surface by Britt’s observation of a dead guy in the morgue. I found a deeper connection to the characters because I have read the entire series. Edna knows how to build tension and surpri [...]

Entertaining mystery. It might have been rated 4 stars if the writer had just stuck to the mystery. The two subplots were totally unnecessary and out of place. Since I was listening to the audio book version, I just skipped ahead. Seriously. Totally unnecessary. The unnecessary romance subplot was particularly difficult to bear because the reader (Anna Fields) didn't sound like (or make the character sound like) she went in for male company in that way. How can you not have chemistry between two [...]

I've been reading this series from the start and other than the ending, this was one of my favorites. I liked the introduction of a new set of characters from the Cold Case Squad and look forward to meeting them again in future books. Britt is one of my favorite series characters and she didn't disappoint in this book. I love how she can meet and befriend anyone all while uncovering clues. One of those people is Sunny and I hope to encounter her again in future books. But oh, that ending. I knew [...]

I didn't quite like the ending but of course I know not all ending are great. With how Edna wrote the last chapters, I knew what was coming. The way she got suddenly deep into the relationship of Britt and Kendall ticked something in me and I knew something was going to be wrong.I didn't expect the investigation to take a sudden turn about what really happened that night. It was surprising. Unpredictable and that's one of the reasons why I like those kind of books.Mysterious! Maybe one day I'll b [...]

Well, as I was reading this book I was really enjoying it (minus a sex scene you have to skip). This is a mystery. It is a Cold Case that becomes a current case as they try to figure out what happen many years ago and the murders aren't happy about it. I would have given it 4 stars but the ending was horrible and I was quite mad. I don't read books to read a depressing ending. So if you are like me, don't read this. If you like more "real" endings, go ahead and read it.

A Britt Montero of the Miami News mystery. Britt finds herself involved in cold a case mystery which she helps to unravel. Very typical of the series in which Brett becomes very single minded in pursuit of her story as well as solving the mystery. The story is engrossing and interesting to read, though the end was a bit disappointing as a number of negative things are quickly revealed and dispatched without a lot of resolution which leaves the reader hanging.

#8 in the Britt Montero series. Britt Montero, Miami newspaper reporter, covers the police beat.Britt Montero mentions unusual burns on a dead burglar to a member of the Cold Case Squad. The burns trigger memories of a description of a person involved in a 14 year old rape / murder. Britt and the members of the Squad look into the old case and anger Lt. K.C. Riley. Britt decides she really does love Major McDonald and accepts his proposal.

Britt is on assignment with Miami's Cold Case Squad investigating a murder and assault that is 20 years old. New evidence comes to light when a man is electrocuted during a robbery. Britt's determination to seek out the truth puts her in the line of fire. My favorite book from this series so far.

    19. Sally on said:

This is a fast paced mystery featuring Buchanan's favorite sluth Britt. It's a quick read with lots of action and interesting characters that you care about. Several twist and turns with surprising revelations at the conclusion of the story. I was disappointed with a side story about Britt's personal life. That poor girl just can't get a break.

I'm not a mystery or thriller reader, but I liked this. Despite a few cliches it held my interest and moved along at a good pace.I learned from this book that many multi characters are possible without getting confusing. The author did a good job of giving you just enough information to keep them straight in your head while you read.

I listened to this one on CD. Very good storyline about a young girl and her boyfriend who are kidnapped, she is raped repeatedly, and they are both shot. The boy dies but Sonny lives. She is now a young woman who lives alone and is an ice sculpter.Buchanan keeps the pages (or in this case, CD's) turning until the stunning conclusion.

After the death of a petty thief, a member of the Cold case squad recognizes the thief as part of a case he couldn't solve 18 years ago. The victim is now an reclusive artist. Book in Britt Monterro series (haven't read) that introduces Buchanan's new series about the Cold case squad. Quick, fun read. Should read more by this author.

    23. Eden on said:

This book was a fun read, but I remember Buchanan's writing style being more engaging and sarcastic - I haven't read her books in over a decade, so I hope the others that are new to me are more satisfying.

This book took me a bit longer to get involved with, compared to "The Garden of Evil," also by Edna Buchanan, but once I was invovled, it kept the pages turning. I was totally surprised by the ending, again, and I love that. Not at all predictible. And yes, I do recommend it.

Excellent; Continuing Character: Britt Montero; reporter works with police in the Cold Cases area to try and find the people responsible for the rape of a young girl and the killing of her boyfriend.

Another murder/mystery type book listened to while at work. Pretty well written. I didn't particularly like the reader. Not sure if I love the ending.
