      I am currently reading this book which suggests that we analyze our own reading strategies before we start to analyze and share reading strategies with students. What is also helpful is to observe efficient readers who have developed good reading strategies, and then to observe the child who struggles. In the same way, I feel struggling readers also need to observe efficient readers to observe them as they read and share their thinking.

      This is an excellent resource for any elementary teacher, especially if you are teaching grade one. It assists you to understand the reading process and to address those little ones who are struggling. The sooner you can address these students and meet their needs, the sooner they experience success!

      I am only on Chapter two and I have already learned so many things that I can try out with my students such as how to teach them how to build their own reading strategy system. One of the main ideas is to model based on the needs of the students. I will see where it goes from here.

      Lots of really great tips. Honestly it's more for K-2 but if you have lower level readers in the upper grades it can help to uncover why. Highly recommend reading this if you are a K-3 teacher
