Such a great read from start to finish! Wonderful characters bring this story to life and the detail thrusts you back in time. Reading this had me understanding how it must have felt to give up everything and start over in a new world! I was definitely left wanted more.

She begins with the troubles experienced by German [...]

It opened a window on what the ancestors went through to get to North America and what was waiting for [...]

This is a very well written account of a family forced to leave tyrannical Germany. In search of a better life in Nova Scotia, they find promises broken and life far from idyllic. We are proud to announce that it is a 2012 B.R.A.G. Medallion Honoree!
