First of all let me say that all of the books that Sue Fliess has authored have been excellent! I particularly like the main character in this book because so many girls are struggling with body image and the little hippo is carefree and enjoys being in her own skin. Hippo is growing up and now she can go and choose her next pair of shoes. What girl is not enamoured by a shoe shopping spree? With fun rhyme married with outstanding illustrations this book is a true winner. Sorting through the sho [...]

Fliess creates a pitch perfect rhyme to keep the tempo fast-paced and exciting. You are compelled to turn the page to discover what shoes Hippo will find next.Shoes For Me! is a sweet, amusing addition to your poetry shelf that is sure to appeal to the shoe shopper in all of us. Cute, exuberant pictures and words, perfect for all the parents I know who have been charmed by their kids' first pairs of shoes. The book is decidedly girly, although the shoes Hippo chooses from aren't. The styles include lots of favorite shoe trends I recognize from both boys and girls I know.I recently had the pleasure of overhearing one of my two-year-old friends shout, "Shooss for Me!" as her mom pulled this book off my shelf. (They had their own copy at home--from me, of course!) I've giv [...]

Darling book. The rhythmic text makes for a fun read-aloud and could certainly be used in a preschool or kindergarten classroom when talking about attributes. Parents of pint-sized, opinionated fashionistas will certainly see something familiar in young hippo as she is dazed by so many choices for shoes of all types and the struggle to balance her choice with mom's opinion and budget. Decision making for a girl with so many options can be rather tough. I loved the sunny sherbet-toned color palet [...]

This is one of those books you instantly want to schedule for a story time. The short, snappy rhymes and attractive illustrations make it a natural read-aloud, whether for a child on your lap or a group sitting in front of you. Children will enjoy bits such as"Fuzzy, furry - shoes that quack?I'm no duck. Please put those back."while parents will smile as they recognize the upturned nose and crossed arms greeting Mom's attempts to get a decision made. Looking forward to sharing this with my 2yo, [...]

So, of course, I think it's darling and perfect in every way! But please, read it for yourselves. I'm so excited for its release and hope you'll join me in spreading the word. Hippo needs new shoes, so she and her mom set off to the shoe store to find a pair. But who knew there would be so many choices? Try them on along with Hippo and join the rhyming fun. Will she find the perfect shoes for her?

Meh. I appreciate the main character being a hippo and the colorfulness of all the shoes. The rhyme scheme is quick and simple. I was a bit surprised by lines like "girl shoes and boy shoes" and that the mom had refused a pair on basis of cost, but overall the book was fine. It just didn't grab me, for whatever reason.

After she tries on every pair in the store, Hippo finally finds the shoes she likes.A fun rhyming story with a girly-girl hippo as a main character.“Shoes with buttons, shoes with bows. Picture Book 18: This book is definitely for younger children. It is a very easy read and it rhymes so it will get younger kids attention better then other books. All in all, it was a good book, but I enjoy reading books that are a little more challenging for children. I would recommend this to young children.

The main character of this whimsical look into shoes is a young hippo who goes shoe shopping with her mother. Along the way, she learns how many different kinds of shoes there are and how difficult that makes the decision on which pair to buy. A fun read.
